At the 2017 Warley National Model Railway Exhibition at the National Exhibition Centre on 25-26 November the Friends of the NRM South of England Group was awarded the Model Railway Express e-magazine Award ’for the Best Stand provided by an Association‘. This is the first time the award has been presented to recognise ‘the specialised knowledge that societies and associations can represent and which is shared openly with members’, and it is especially pleasing to be chosen, bearing in mind the size of the show (it takes up the whole of Hall 5 of the National Exhibition Centre), and the number of other associations there (upwards of 50). The citation said: ‘The FNRM had a very well laid out stand with interesting points for all‘.

The announcement of the Award is in issue 7 December 2017 of the e-magazine on page 70 - please click on this link

Alan Peglar Memorial Train
03/01/2019
Our Chairman, James Baldwin, organised an Alan Peglar Memorial Train from King’s Cross to York on 13 October 2018 in collaboration with the daughter of Alan who, as the first private owner of Flying Scotsman, began the process of ensuring its long-term preservation for the nation. On the northbound journey - behind Flying Scotsman - Alan’s remaining ashes were consigned by his daughter to the locomotive’s firebox as it tackled Stoke Bank, the others having already been scattered at the Ffestiniog Railway in keeping with his final wishes. Travellers, including a number of our Group’s members, enjoyed Pullman-style dining on both outward and return journeys, plus a reception at the Museum to mark the occasion. To see the newspaper report of the journey, which our Chairman described as 'an emotional rollercoaster', please click on this link
